IRAC

How do you answer exam questions?
How do you avoid waffling?

These kinds of questions came up during my CIPS study group. The only useful thing law school taught me was IRAC: a legal analysis tool. I use it all the time to frame my answer and keep me on track.

For example:

Issue: What are the advantages and disadvantages of Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR)?

Rule: Explain what ADR is.

Application: List the advantages/disadvantages using examples

Conclusion: End with the types of situations which ADR might be useful or not.
