A professional body has to have some benefits to attract members to join/participate. The main benefit of being a member of CIPS is primarily the networking opportunities, however, its nice if there other benefits like discounts, promotions, etc.
What does CIPS offer?
There are discounts on books, training courses, and a few products but none I would really deem useful. Except the discounts on books (still expensive), Accor hotels and Regus flexible workplaces.
Regus Flexible Workplaces
The only truly free benefit was access to Regus Businessworld facilities (then only 15 free visits). I hardly travel for business but a comfy chair, free Wi-Fi and refreshments seems pretty sweet when travelling. After filling in the application form, waiting several weeks, my CIPS branded Regus Businessworld Preferred card arrived in the mail.
Review
After recently slumming it with other Melbourne tourists, I dropped by the Collins Street Business Lounge.
Pros
- Friendly staff.
- Quiet. Only the tap tap tapping of laptops.
- Free tea and coffee (Capsule coffee and Dilmah teabags).
- Free Wi-Fi.
- Clean toilets.
- Damn nice view.
Cons
- Lounge is pretty small.
- Those lounge chairs are a bit rocky and you wouldn't want to put a drink on the arm table.
I met this German guy in the kitchen; a ponytail, dishevelled looking shirt, ill fitting pants, which revealed stripped socks. He claimed he was a venture capitalist and looking to invest millions of dollars into works of art. Doubted his story very much but was entertaining.
